Here's your midday brief for Wednesday, May 6th. I'm Alex Oscella for the Wall Street Journal.

Ted Turner, who revolutionized television by founding CNN and ushering in the 24-hour news cycle,

died today at age 87. A spokesman confirmed the death of the billionaire philanthropist and

conservationist, who was one of the largest U.S. landowners.

Turner is remembered for building a cable empire and pledging $1 billion to the United Nations.

Disney's new CEO, Josh Tomorrow, laid out his long-term vision for the company,

and it's centered on using technology to reach customers and increase profits.

In the fiscal second quarter, Disney's revenue rose to over $25 billion, up 7% from a year earlier. In the streaming

division, profits from Hulu and Disney Plus jumped by 88% last quarter. Disney stock was up

around 7% in midday trading. And China's Deepseek is looking to raise a few billion

dollars from investors backed by the Chinese government. The WSJ has learned that some

prospective investors have valued Deepseek at around $50 billion in recent talks. The company

plans to use the new capital to advance its research and expand computing infrastructure.

Beijing has treated DeepSeek as a national AI champion. The startup rattled Silicon Valley

and Wall Street early last year with a powerful new model.
