This is the reason interview with Nick Gillespie. My guests today are Courtney Ballacher and Ted

Ballacher, the team behind the new documentary, The Coddling of the American Mind. It's based

on the 2018 bestselling book by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianov, and the film follows a series

of students as they navigate life on today's highly charged college campuses.

I talked with Courtney and Ted, who started his video career as one of the first hires at Reason TV,

about the Gen Z mental health crisis, free speech, DEI, the oppressor victim worldview,

and why they chose to host their film on the innovative platform

substack rather than a more traditional venue.

So the movie is the coddling of the American mind.

It's based on the 2018 book by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianov.

What is the documentary about and what are you hoping to achieve with it?

Well, our little log line is an anxious generation searches for happiness.

And that's, it's really the story about happiness, people who lose it and then find it the second time,

and they value it more the second time.

So we follow a global group of 20-somethings who

have fallen victim to, you know, bad thought patterns really, made themselves miserable and

come out the other end. So we hope to reach young people and their parents.
