So one of the most interesting things that I found in my research when looking at how technologies is impacting our notions of work, there's like a couple of different factors that play.

The first is there's this psychological phenomenon called work devotion and work devotion has evolved

over the last couple of decades where we as a society have collectively decided that there's

an appropriate way to show how to show

our commitment to our jobs and that's through struggle and sacrifice so when you say I'm

so busy or I pulled an all-nighter or you stay really late,

you're the last one to leave, or the first one to arrive, there's this kind of element of

your proving through sacrifice your devotion to your job, which is like a real thing that we as a culture

have decided upon.

Now what's interesting is when you bring technology into the mix, what technology has done is that it's

made it very hard to disconnect it's blurring the lines between being at work and

being at home so now we have this mechanism through which we can constantly

be showing work devotion at all hours of the day.

And not only are we showing this type of behavior, it's often rewarded.
