Summary
We as a society have collectively decided that there’s an appropriate way to show our commitment to our jobs. And that’s through struggle and sacrifice. So you say “I’m so busy” or “I pulled an all-nighter.” You stay really late, you’re the last one to leave, you’re the first one to arrive. There’s this kind of element of you’re proving through sacrifice your devotion to your job which we as a culture have decided on. What technology has done is that it’s made it very hard to disconnect. It’s blurring the lines between being at work and being at home. So now we have this mechanism through which we can constantly showing work devotion through all hours of the day.
