Great to have you all along.

As we start night number two of this first week in August, our guest

tonight, John Gastel is a distinguished professor of political communication, but he's also

written some novels. And one of the novels we're going to be talking about specifically

tonight is called Gray Matters matters and this is an interesting discussion

because it basically outlines the story of a programmer an artificial intelligent technology guy

who invent software to forestall dementia in elderly patients but in the process he risks turning a

whole generation into what the book calls glitches.

We're going to find out what this is all about, but we're really going to be talking about

the conflict between humanity and remaining human and the advances in these technologies,

whether it's implantable technology, whether it's artificial intelligence, or anything similar to that.

We often find that science fiction can do one of two things, and sometimes it does both.

It can predict the future, but it can also warn us of things to come.

And we'll talk about that concept as well.

So it'll be a great discussion tonight with John Gasto, looking forward to this.
