Hello. Today on Open Book, we're looking at power from the periphery,

from the high-octane, high-risk world of tech startups as experienced by people of colour,

to the role of family from somebody who might not be able to have her own. And Scandinavia sets the scene for a protagonist that challenges ableism in crime fiction.

We start, however, in New York, home to two new books based in the 21st century gold rush

that is the race to find the next globe-conquering app.

The startup wife by Tamima Anam is narrated by Asha, who marries her blonde-haired school crush, Cyrus,

and together they transform his passion, providing rituals for people at key moments in their lives, into a wildly successful company as their marriage takes a downward turn.

Meanwhile in Black Book, Mateo Scaripo's debut, unambitious barista Darren Venda is whist from

a coffee shop on the ground floor of an office block to the heady heights of the 34th

floor, home of a startup called Someone. Like Asha, his personal life collapses right as his career is

taking off. To help us delve into this brave new world, I'm delighted to say that Tamima joins me
