I'm your host, Haley Rall, and I am in the silliest situation I've ever been in while recording because I am currently in a

bathroom in an Airbnb in Island Park, Idaho and I'm sitting on a wooden chair on a pillow and I have a blanket over my head and I had this idea come to me to have an episode called the C word.

So that's what this episode will be titled,

the C word because you think it's that C word,

but it's actually C-U-L-T,

because today we are talking about colts more specifically if

Mormonism is a colt and why or why not and what the academic consensus is is what some of your thoughts and feelings are about whether it's a

cult or not and I've done a good bit of research on this and I'm super

excited to get into it. I was also thinking as I was preparing this episode, I was like, hmm, just Mormon things. What a Mormon experience or an ex-Marmman experience of trying to decipher if you were part of a

cult. That's probably not something that anyone plans to do in their life or

wants to do in their life and the fact that it even needs to be asked and discussed

I also think says a whole lot. I'm going to give a rundown of the academic consensus on whether or not Mormonism is a cult. I have

assembled some notes so don't worry it's not going to get boring. I think this is worth

knowing too because you know as an ex morman these types of things come up in

conversation I know it's something that feels really personal to us because like I

just said it's kind of personal if you were in a cult or not so I think

that this is something that many of us care about we care about how culty the Mormon

churches obviously and so having about how Colty the Mormon Church is obviously.

And so having some idea of the general academic consensus

I think is really worthwhile.
