I'm really excited and also frustrated to be talking to you about what's been happening in Kansas

today. And I just want to sort of start us off here by grounding us in the very immediate moment that's bringing this conversation into focus, which while it is related to recent events, this conversation is also unfortunately a very evergreen one.

But last week in Kansas, the state abruptly began enforcing a new law called SB 244 that effectively invalidates trans people's

driver's licenses by requiring IDs to reflect the quote-unquote original sex listed on

someone's birth certificate.

People who had legally updated their licenses already after months and sometimes years of

navigating bureaucratic hurdles to do so,
