Summary

Another day, another drama in the Mormon vs. ex-Mormon internet universe! A (self-proclaimed) LDS apologist podcaster made a response video to me after I called out the church for paying influencers to bear testimony of the Book of Mormon — and it gave us plenty to unpack. I’m diving into classic ex-Mormon stereotypes, the Church’s evolving digital marketing game, and what it might be like trying to stay devout online. Plus, a few thoughts on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion to round it all out. You can listen to the rest of the episode on the Girlscamp: After Dark Patreon here. Hello everyone and welcome to the Girls Camp podcast Patreon, Girls Camp After Dark.

0:05.9

It is me, your host, Haley Rawl, and I have had some internet beef that I can't get off my mind,

0:12.8

that I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about that we're going to break down together today.

0:18.8

This particular beef, if I can even call it that, it feels a bit

0:23.1

more one-sided from their end, but it is with a person called the blonde apologist. I'm going to get

0:31.3

into who this person is, everything that happened, but just in a nutshell, in summary, I made a video

0:37.4

talking about the fact

0:38.4

that the church is now paying influencers to share their testimonies, and then this person responded

0:45.1

to my video. And I saw her response. I wasn't looking to engage any further, so I made a couple of

0:52.5

comments, and I left it at that. But since then,

0:55.9

I've had a lot more thoughts and feelings and thought that there was no better place to share

1:00.2

those things than here on the Patreon. Before we begin, I do want to say that if you're new around

1:06.4

here, I have a couple rules of engagement for Mormon apologists.

1:12.5

And I don't love using the word apologists because it feels like not the nicest thing to call someone who's talking about their religion,

1:20.8

but this person is self-proclaimedly so, so we're going to roll with it.

1:25.5

I try not to engage unless I have been called out specifically,

1:30.4

me, Girls Camp Podcast, me by name, or my face is shown, or if the person is talking directly

1:36.8

about ex-Mormons. Like if they're making a point about ex-Mormons, you know, ex-Mormons left

1:42.8

the church, they can't leave the church alone, ex-Mormons are so know, ex-Mormons left the church. They can't leave the church alone.

1:44.5

Ex-Mormons are so disrespectful. So that's what I try my best to do. I just think I'm out here on

1:50.8

the internet sharing my thoughts, feelings, and opinions against the church. I think people have

1:55.7

every right to share their thoughts, feelings, opinions about the church. I don't really find it very
