And so if you think about the apostles who themselves started churches,

or, you know, they were sort of the first or only apostle on site in a particular church, you know, you can say, you can put Paul in Corinth or, you know, in Greece, you can put Mark in Alexandria, you can put

Peter in Rome, right? So from the beginning, those guys are going to be like archbishops

because even if there's someone else, you know, in a nearby city, they would have to defer to these apostles.

Over time, the larger cities grow to have a kind of authority over the smaller cities around them.

And so whoever the bishop of Rome is, whoever the bishop of Alexandria is, whoever the

bishop of Antioch is, right, is going to have a certain measure of authority over the smaller

cities around them simply because they're in this line of succession going back to these important

apostles. And so it develops early in a sense,

but then the actual authority and the actual power develops as well

so that eventually even, you know, let's say if a city outside of Rome...
