0:44.2	Together they are co-founders of Interrupting Criminalization and they are also the co-authors of the book,
0:48.8	No More Police, a case for abolition, published by the new press in 2022.
0:53.4	So first we'll introduce Andrea.
0:55.1	Andrea Ritchie is a writer, organizer, movement lawyer, and researcher who has been documenting,
0:59.9	organizing, advocating, litigating, and agitating around policing and criminalization of
1:04.6	black women, girls, trans, and gender nonconforming people for over three decades.
1:09.4	She is the author and co-author of several books,
1:11.6	including practicing new worlds, abolition, and emergent strategies, Invisible No More,
1:16.3	Police Violence Against Black Women and Women of Color, and say her name, resisting police
1:20.6	brutality against black women, among others. She has also authored numerous research reports,
1:25.3	articles, and opinion pieces on policing, criminalization,
1:28.2	mass incarceration, and immigration enforcement, including a recent one for the nation that is very
1:33.0	relevant to our discussion today, called abolition is still the only way out of this.
