Live from Southern California, this is the Jim Rome show.

I don't want to get too carried away with the hyperbole, the histrionics, the patriotism, all of that.

But it is kind of tough not to acknowledge all of that, right?

Because that hockey was too good to be true.

That was damn near the most incredible sporting event I've ever watched in my entire life.

And again, I know it sounds like hyperbole, but it was that good.

Now, you know how I always say, rarely does anything ever live up to the hype, except USAV Team Canada for the Olympic gold,

not only lived up to the hype, but it smashed that hype altogether.

We knew it was going to be a great game, but what we got was one of the most significant games

in the history of the sport, one of the most significant moments for hockey in this country, an

inflection point, like something we haven't seen in exactly 46 years to the day.

That's the thing I kept going through my mind the entire weekend. I can't believe it's been

46 years since the Miracle on Ice. I mean, that is insane. But that's how long it's been.

46 years to the day from the last USA Olympic gold medal in men's hockey. And I'm thrilled

to get to talk about it with the legend, the goat, Al Michaels. And we'll do that shortly.

Because it really does feel like we just experienced another miracle on ice.

Now, maybe it was not quite as good as 1980, but pretty damn close.

Pretty damn close.

Canada has so much firepower.

Canada had so many chances and was so firmly in control for so much of that game.

But in the end, Team USA won on grit, heart, toughness, and insane goal-tending.

And brotherhood.
