Summary

Credit card APR creeping into the high 20s can feel like quicksand, and that’s exactly where we start—by asking whether a president can, or should, cap rates at 10 percent for a year. We sort the legal from the rhetorical, exploring the constitutional limits on executive power, the real-world ripple effects of price controls, and how a bully pulpit can move industries without writing a single rule. Through a biblical lens, we talk about profit versus exploitation, why Scripture warns against ...

Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Wall Builders show, where we take on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective.

0:15.1

Thursday is what we call Foundations of Freedom Thursday, and it's a chance for you to ask us questions about the Constitution or maybe a

0:22.1

policy being proposed by a governor or a president or maybe some history about a founding father.

0:28.5

Anything you want to ask, send it in to Radio at wallbuilders.com. That's radio at wallbuilders.com.

0:33.5

And we will take a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective on that issue. Rick Green here

0:38.5

with David Barton and Tim Barton. Giles, we've got a whole line of questions. If y'all are ready,

0:42.8

we'll dive into question one. Let's do it. All right. First one is Jacob. He's asking already,

0:49.4

this just happened a couple days ago, really, about the 10% cap that the President Trump has proposed. So he says,

0:55.4

I listen every day, gentlemen, from Western Pennsylvania and appreciate your perspective from a

0:59.3

biblical, constitutional, and historical standpoint. My question is about Trump's recent announcement

1:04.1

to cap credit card interest at 10% for one year. For my understanding, he does not have the

1:09.1

authority to do this. It feels more like

1:10.9

an ask of the companies, or does he actually have a constitutional power to do so? Also, is this biblical?

1:17.2

I don't believe it is, but I would love to hear your guys' take. Thanks for all you do. Jacob,

1:22.2

a quick correction. It's y'all's take. I'd love to hear y'all's take you pennsylvania guys your guys's take no just kidding

1:30.5

jacob that's great great question and and honestly guys i wanted to ask all about this too

1:35.0

because it does definitely feel like a um interference in the free market and and i can't think of

1:40.9

a constitutional provision i understand what he's doing in terms of you know just trying to get the companies to, you know, back off a little bit. But, man, I have the same question. What do you all think? Well, it's interesting. I mean, there is an answer to this, but it has an asterisk that has to go along with it. So no, he doesn't have the constitutional authority to do this. There's no explicit

2:01.8

authority to do this. As you point out, the free market system, this is part of that, this is

2:07.7

what business gets to do. But that's where the asterisk comes in is part of protecting the free

2:16.1

enterprise system is making sure it does not get into exploitation.

2:21.8

And so if you go back to the Bible, things like Exodus 22 and Ludovicus 25,

...
