Summary

Welcome to Teachback Tuesday, where you'll hear some of the most popular episodes from previous seasons. I blame the beauty queen in the waiting room. She prompted this podcast. We were talking about things in general when she suddenly inserted that she was a former beauty queen. It was such an odd insert that it confused me at first, but as I continued to listen, I heard the voice of insecurity in the background. I don't remember inviting insecurity into our conversation. Insecurity is a creepy beast that preys on our vulnerabilities. Whether we're frequently putting ourselves down or elevating ourselves on pedestals, insecurity is the driving force behind the self-absorption. There are ways we can overcome this unhelpful habit. Let's consider five suggestions in this episode. This week's episode, Five Practices for Overcoming Insecurity, was really heavily downloaded.

And I think that's because so many of us have had to wrestle this beast of insecurity,

0:17.2

and we don't like it. But, you know, it can be successfully defeated, but we have to use

0:23.3

biblical principles to win this one. Have you been putting yourself on a pedestal? Can you have

0:29.6

something great happening in your life and you don't actually have to tell anybody about it or write a

0:34.6

post about it or broadcast it? If you're able to do those things,

0:38.7

you've already developed spiritual strength in this area. But if you feel like you have to puff

0:44.1

yourself up, you have to put yourself out there, you have to describe all your endeavors and

0:48.8

tell people how great things are going, that's insecurity hanging out. and you might want to tuck that back in.

Let's listen to this episode again. I was sitting in a waiting area at a clinic when the woman

1:02.9

next to me struck up a conversation. She looked to be in her 80s or so, and I was enjoying the

1:09.5

friendly exchange. I'm especially fond of older people. And by the way,

1:14.3

at 63, I am an older person to some of you who are listening. After a few minutes of chit-chat,

1:21.1

the woman asked, so what are you doing here? You look perfectly fine. I told her I was at a routine

1:26.7

visit.

1:32.3

What she said to me next was a statement that really made me wonder.

1:37.5

Is insecurity still an issue even into our later years?
