I want to tell you all about Austria because I kind of had a deja vu

a week last week. As many of you know, I was 46 years ago, that makes me very old.

I forayed into a world of faith by going over to Austria to help begin a student ministry in

Eastern Europe, communist Eastern Europe when the countries were still ruled by the Soviet Union.

And I went over as a young woman by myself, I had to live with a couple of people I'd never met before,

was on a staff team of a bunch of strangers,

had to study German and then eventually studied Polish where I also moved into the country,

learned to be in my first real experience of living long-term in a foreign culture.

There's the second largest United Nations in the world in Vienna,

and so many, many of my friends,

I actually started a Bible study there, and many of my friends were from different countries working for their country in the United Nations,

and I had to learn about life.

I had only had an experience in America up until that time.
