We are a society of rules and laws. These concepts help to provide people with the structure necessary to keep a community safe, thriving, and healthy.

We learn from a very young age how we choose to behave in words and actions impact not only

ourselves but others. So it makes sense that we apply a similar systematic way of thinking

when we're learning in art. Hard definitions of do's and don'ts are incredibly

helpful, but after a time, they become stifling when creativity butts up against what we think is

acceptable and what's not. While some are obsessed with the rigid definitions of what

photography is and should be,

there are others who see photography as a joy-filled means of self-expression.

It's the art itself and not the methodology behind it.

That's important.

Kate Brake is a photographer who blends the photographic process with that of a painter,

resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces that express how she sees the world and experiences her life.

Whether she is defined as a painter who uses photographs or photographer who paints is for

others to worry about. For Kate, it's all about
