Summary

David J. Murphy is a photojournalist and filmmaker who currently works near Charleston, S.C. He began his career 16 years ago when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a combat photojournalist. After leaving the Marine Corps he moved to New York City and worked as a freelance photojournalist. He later joined the U.S. Air National Guard and worked at F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, N.Y., as their visual information manager, photojournalist and broadcaster. After earning a Bachelor's Degree in photojournalism from Syracuse University, David joined the U.S. Air Force where he currently works as a public affairs officer. Resources: David J. I have a great admiration and respect for the men and women in our armed services here in the U.S.

And though I don't always agree with government politics, I have no doubt about the courage and commitment exhibited by those serving in our military. Some of that comes from my friends and family who have served, but it also comes

from the visual history that has documented the lives of those in our military. Much of it has been

produced by talented newspaper and magazine photojournalists who

risked their own lives and safety to tell those stories.

But there are also photographers who serve within the military, who document not just the

drama of conflict, but also the quieter and more intimate moments of our military both

at home and abroad.
