Summary

Jamie MacDonald is a nature and stock photographer and social influencer living in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. A husband and the father of two boys who are widely featured in his work, he describes his love of photography as one that is "rooted in the desire to move people to see the world around them in new ways." With a primary focus on black-and-white landscapes and an unmatched passion for the Olympus brand, his professional and Getty Images stock portfolios run the gamut from portrait to still life to landscapes. When he's not out shooting, Jamie can often be found contributing to several photography websites, including Small Camera BIG Picture, Borrowlenses.com, and a variety of social networks, where he is widely regarded and respected as an Olympus and mirrorless photography expert. Jamie is also very active in leading photography workshops and photowalks in and around his home state of Michigan. Jamie highlights the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as his favorite Olympus camera for its combination of power, portability, weatherproofing and optics. This is a body and X and and this is The Candid Frame.

When I started this podcast 11 years ago, there were just a handful of people who were producing regular educational content on photography.

0:49.7

Now, between podcasting and YouTube, you have hundreds of people doing unboxing videos, camera reviews,

0:57.6

or Photoshop tutorials. And as the recent demise of Popular Photography magazine proves,

1:03.6

the internet is the resource most people turn to to learn more about photography.

1:09.8

And while I've checked out many of these other podcasts and

1:13.0

YouTube videos, I tend to gravitate to those people who I feel express a sincerity and an

1:20.3

honesty about sharing their love for photography. I don't want to spend time watching or hearing

1:25.5

content from someone who I wouldn't want to be

1:28.1

spending time with in the real world. I feel that way about Jamie McDonald, who along with

1:33.7

his partner Mike Benning, are the hosts of the Mirrellus Minutes podcast. They are both

1:39.4

Olympus Trailblazers, and though their tech focus is obviously on Olympus equipment, they share their

1:46.0

joy and passion for photography in a way that it doesn't make much of a difference what brand

1:51.5

they're using. Most importantly, Jamie is a great photographer and a person who has created a great

1:58.3

body of work even while maintaining a normal nine to five job. Jamie is the kind of man

2:04.4

that makes wonderful work and is really successful in making things happen. Well, Jamie, welcome to the

2:15.8

candid frame. I'm really pleased to have a chance to talk with you.
