This is the Body Annex and this is The Candid Frame.

One of the reasons why I believe that photography has had such an allure for me is that it provided me access to so many different worlds, different people.

For me, growing up in South Los Angeles, my world was pretty small.

But through magazines and books, I could see and experience things that I hadn't even imagined.

And as I got older, the camera provided me the means by which I could explore and photograph

these worlds and people myself. It's what's led me to respect and admire those in our world who choose journalism and photojournalism as a career.

Jamie Rose chose a career as a photojournalist, which led her to document stories both in the United States and abroad, with images published in the New York Times, Newsweek,

and Time magazines, and Rolling Stone.

But it's been her humanitarian work that has come to define her as a photographer, as well

as an educator, as a co-founder of the Momental Photography Workshops, a unique educational collaboration between photographers

and non-profit organizations in the host cities where the workshops are held. During a time when

the validity of a free press and journalism is being questioned and challenged, it's important to be

reminded of the kind of people who choose to use words and

pictures to share the truth of the world with you and me.

Well, Jamie, welcome to the candid frame. It's a pleasure to have you join us this morning.
