This is TCE number 30, the children's story. TCE stands for theology and current events.

So today is a children's story written by James Clavel, but it's actually for adults.

Kids can listen, but it's primarily for adults on how kids are extracted from patriotism,

religion, and family. This can happen in 25 minutes. The back cover of this book

that some friends gave me, they didn't expect me to podcast it, but they gave this to me. The back cover

reads, it was a simple incident in the life of James Clavel, a talk with his young daughter just

home from school that inspired this chilling tale of what could happen in 25 quietly devastating minutes.

Now, the basics in this story is that there's an old conservative teacher replaced by a

young new teacher. New teacher is capitalized in this book and you can't see that since I'm

going to read it to you so I will just read it as if it were italicized. So what I'm going

to do is just read you this short book takes about 15 or 20 minutes and then at

the end I'm just going to give you a couple pretty obvious thoughts but I really

think y'all should listen to this. I'm going to bookend the

book itself with just two bells so you can focus in on those very subtle words and maybe

The teacher was afraid and the children were afraid, all except Johnny. He watched the classroom

door with hate. He felt the hatred deep within his stomach. It gave him strength. It was two

minutes to nine. The teacher glanced numbly from the door and stared at the flag, which stood in a

corner of the room, but she couldn't see the flag today.

She was blinded by her terror, not only for herself, but mostly for them, her children.
