Hello and welcome to another episode of the Weeds on the Box Media Podcast Network.

I'm Matthew Glacias. Joining me today we have Dylan Scott and Tara Galsham,

both two great reporters from Capitol Hill here, to talk about

the tax reform story which has sort of receded into a bit of a B plotline this week as we've had

the continuing ex-capades of Roy Moore, Al Franken, some creepy photos and series

allegations. But this tax reform thing seems to be happening, which is a Dylan writer,

a piece about that I want to talk about just like that fact later. But the House past

a bill yesterday, with not that much drama, right Tara?

Yeah, they passed it with only 13 Republicans defecting. So if you remember from the health care

drama, they can only lose 24-ish votes on these kind of big ticket items. And there wasn't a lot of

drama or late in the game back and forth. Will we or won't we? Trump came the morning of the vote.

They had a very positive meeting that did not talk a lot about tax reform. It seems like he

talked mostly about his trip to Asia. And then they went in and they voted for it.

And the difference between 13 no votes and 22 no votes, it's a huge number of people. But it's

it is telling because often with a controversial issue, leadership will it's called catch and release

and will tell certain members, go ahead vote against us on this. If you need for your re-election

to say you were against this thing, we don't need your vote on it. And then some other time,

they'll come back to you and be like, no, you got to vote with us here. So the fact that there

was a margin, it shows that there were members wanted to be on the record voting yes for this bill.

If there were a half dozen people who were saying, hey, Paul, this is a really tough one for me,

can you give me a pass? He could have given them a pass. But they wanted to vote for this. They are
