It is Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Let's get into the mix. Here are you Washington headlines of the day. Number one, the tax bill cometh, maybe.

Number two, the three big questions about the Senate's border package, and number three.

Last night was the Washington Press Club Foundation dinner. Let's get into the mix.

The tax bill, this tax bill we've been covering so heavily over the last, I don't know,

a couple weeks,

bipartisan bill to extend business tax credits and expand the child tax credit,

past the house, putting up an eye-popping 357 to 70 tally. That is a big, big, big vote. Probably,

I don't know, I'm going to, I'm not making this up, I'm guessing,

but this is probably the biggest total for a tax bill, bipartisan total, for a tax bill

in a very long time. Most tax bills are, are either partisan or a lot less bipartisan. This is a major win for Jason Smith,

the chair of the Ways and Means Committee, the youngest tax writing chair since the Civil

War. Democrats got a significant but not overwhelming win, the child tax credit, but this bill

is about to run headlong into a massive legislative

logjam in the Senate. Number one, the National Defense Supplemental, the border security,

Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, who knows if that thing ever comes out. We'll get to that in a couple

minutes, but that's the chamber's top priority. Then,
