And in the last 24, 36 hours or so, Florida State's linebacking corps went from,

are they going to have enough proven commodities to, oh yeah, yeah, they'll have enough.

They're going to be lined at starter the same way they were in

2022 tatum bethune is returning to florida state for 2023 running it back with a lot of other

teammates led by quarterback jordan travis that was the big news earlier this week ira your

immediate reaction to butthoon now being in the fold for florida state and what that does

for the second level of the defense.

It's really another really positive development.

A couple of days ago, we found out that Kalin Deloche was coming back.

He announced his partnership with the Battles Inn, the new collective,

NIL collective that's supporting Florida State student athletes.

And now Tatum Bethune does the same.

So now you bring back, again, your two starting

inside linebackers that have been, you know, just much improved. They've really helped this defense.

You know, a year ago, Florida State's defense ranked number 65 in the country in total defense.

This year, it's number 14 in the country in total defense. They're giving up about 65 yards per game

less, much lower scoring as well. And those guys are a big reason. So getting those two guys back, I think it's just a huge deal. It is. And you know, you combine that with their recruiting ranks. Blake Nicholson, if he signs, is going to be a big addition. But now there's less pressure on a true freshman when you have a couple of proven commodities who know the system at Florida State and are coming back. Tatum Bethune, this will be a second year in the system and Kalin Deloge a little bit longer than that. But Ira, again, you know, if only one of these guys, for example, came back, whether it was, you know, entry to the pros for Tatum Bethune or transferring somewhere else for Kalin Deloge, Florida State would have been suddenly very thin. Amari Gaynor left earlier in the week, and you don't have a whole lot in the back end of the two deep at linebacker, at least in proven talent. Florida State probably saves itself from having to dip into the portal. They may do it because they find a good fit, but they don't have to anymore, right, now that they have their starters back for this next season. Yeah, I really don't think they have to. I think Kailin Deloches, still has a lot of talent. You know, both of those guys, I'm not entirely sure if they were totally healthy this year, particularly Bethune. I know he had an off-season surgery before he got to Florida, before after the spring game, so he missed a good chunk of of the offseason. We talked, when I did a story on him during the season, he talked about that, how frustrating that was it. It really set him back in some of the summer workouts. And then I think he dealt with some stuff during the season. Kaelin DeLoche may not have been totally right either, but, man, you know, again, I think it's just a solid group in the middle.

They're also really smart guys and very good communicators. I thought that was one of the big things

we saw in this defense. One of the big steps forward was you just saw so much of the pre-snap
