A dramatic de-escalation in tariffs between the U.S. and China is now in effect for 90 days.

CNN's Vanessa Yerkevish breaks down what this could mean for America's ports.

For weeks now, U.S. ports have been seeing a dramatic slowdown in cargo, but that could

change as tariffs on some Chinese exports are now 30%, not 145%. Cargo vessels leaving China

today will carry that lower tariff, and some analysts believe larger retailers who can afford

the tariff will now take advantage of that lower rate and stockpile key

back to school and holiday items that they put on pause. But U.S. ports won't see that possible

surge in cargo until late June or July, as it takes three to six weeks to get to the U.S. from

China. May's imports, however, will still be down 8 to 30% at West Coast ports.

Drug overdose deaths in the U.S. made an unprecedented drop to the lowest they've been in five years.
