An ode to Smoot-Hawley.

For those of you don't know, the Smoot-Hawley Act was a series of tariffs that were enacted in the 1930s that are attributed as a cause of the Great Depression

of the 1930s because, well, they were tariffs.

Now we have the threat of tariffs.

Again, we have a threat of a lot of tariffs.

And if the past is prologue, they could cause economic problems because, well, when

you put a tariff on someone's goods, then they often retaliate with tariffs of their

own.

And there are all kinds of after effects that you really should think about with tariffs.

You at least need to think about them a little bit.

And so we're hearing from a lot of people, both on the show and at our firm, Appella

Wealth, who think maybe we should just sell everything and get the heck out and wait for better times.

And it's not just the tariffs.

It's, of course, the new administration that many people fear.
