Tara, welcome program. Yeah, thanks for having me on. So why would somebody go to your website?

So what you could find on my website is all about dairy sustainability. So dairy's impact on the environment.

And what are people misunderstanding about that? I mean, that's I think your main is not your main crucible to carry, which is that there's a lot of weird shit flying around around farming dairy farming and beef and cattle and what's your perspective?

Yeah, there is a ton of misinformation out there. So I'm actually a fifth generation dairy farmer. So I now dairy farm with my husband and his family. But I got my degree in environmental science. And I've been an environmental scientist for dairy farms across the Southwest for about the last 12 years.

And what I was seeing was a ton of misinformation online that just didn't line up with what I was seeing in real life on dairy farms. And so I was sure.

I would say that cattle are the largest contributor climate change. I see that a ton like that headline that kind of like sound bite a lot.

I see a lot of misinformation around milk and you know what's in it? What's not in it when it's on the grocery source shelf? And just some general conversation around organic versus conventional and all of those kind of topics. So it's very broad.

But at the end of the day, just kind of trying to set some truth out there.

Let's start with the CO2 production by cows, which always goes to cows farting, which was never the case. It's always been cows burping, right? It's always been.

Domec, what is the misconception there?

Yeah. So actually it's not CO2 either. It's methane. That is. Yeah, that they're burping.

Yes. And so actually animal agriculture, this includes dairy beef accounts for less than 4% of our total greenhouse gases here in the United States.

And actually dairy has set the goal to be carbon neutral or better by 2050. And right now we're on track to meet that goal. And I think when people hear those numbers alone, they're pretty surprised because it's just a little bit different than what they've seen online or some of the headlines.

As always, you know, the stuff that goes viral on social media is never the facts or for instance what you would say it's always what somebody says you said or someone says the facts are.

And it sounds good. And therefore that goes viral. It's just uncanny. How how awful the level of sophistication is in the country now because of social media.

It promotes these these bites, these ideas, oh, cows farting, it creates the in a methane. Well, I'm going to contribute to the greenhouse gases.
