This last album that he gave to Def Jam is licensed, which means he owns the Masters.

Now, without getting into too much alike nerdery here all of his

records before when you create an album and you're signed to a label the label owns the album

you get paid out but it's their property right and then you have a lot of times a clause that says at some point

in the near future the owning of the actual masters can go back to you but then there's other thing

that you can do if you need to make some bread immediately which is like selling your catalog

and what that means is almost

like if you think of songs as like, I don't know, owning property, right? If even though you may

have wrote that song and you might own those particular things, the house, the property belongs to the label right so you're you're more like renting

even though you own everything inside of it you rent in that house right if you sell your catalog right

what that means is you take everything that is assigned to you right all the things that all of

your rights towards this and then somebody else says like a black rock if you will just to use
