The few, the proud, the Poutine's. Oh wow. If you're the proud of Marines. Yeah, I know. Is that good? Yeah, it is.

Rosemary Pajas 56 and her husband Alfred 58 were found in a Pennsylvania ravine. They had been fatally shot in their lock arbor.

New Jersey home over the 4th of July weekend in 1982. The apparent perpetrators arrested by police five days later in Texas were two 18-year-olds.

Scott Robert Frans, Rosemary's son from a previous marriage. And Scott's Canadian friend Bruce Anthony Curtis, who'd been Scott's classmate at King's Edge Hill Private School in Nova Scotia where the pair had just graduated.

The events leading up to the deaths of Rosemary and Al Pajas would be extremely important in establishing what led the two teens, both with promising futures ahead of them to kill Scott's friends's mother and stepfather.

Was a cold-blooded murder? Or as Bruce would later claim, a tragic accident caused by a faulty firearm.

This is dark-poutine episode 171, Tangled Web, the shootings of Alfred and Rosemary Pajas.

Much of the research for this episode comes from the usual sources, court documents and media reports.

As well, extremely helpful was David Hayes' book about the case called Blood Naut or No Easy Answers depending on the addition you get your hands on.

Bruce Curtis was a smart young man and came from a solid family, settled in Mount Hanley, on the North Mountain near Middleton, Nova Scotia, the town where I would go to school eight years after these tragic events in this case.

Bruce's father, James, was a captain of the Canadian Armed Forces and Bruce's mother, Alice, was mom to three grown children.

Bruce had two older sisters and just married a 23-year-old, a middle child. The Curtis family were doing well for themselves and lived in a large farm of over 750 acres, quite a spread in Nova Scotia.

Bruce's parents saw potential in their son and wanted the best for him, so they sent him to Nova Scotia's prestigious private school in Windsor called King's Edge Hill.
