Summary
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offseason preview with Greg Auman
Description: Host Ian Hartitz is joined by The Athletic's Buccaneers beat reporter Greg Auman in part 27 of the PFF Fantasy Football Podcast 32 for 32 series. Greg starts off by going through the Super Bowl champ's various team needs, noting that we'll know a lot more about their draft strategy after figuring out their plethora of key free agents across the front-seven as well as at receiver. Still, the guys agree that adding resources to the defensive front and in the secondary alike should be good for business. Greg thinks Tom Brady has a chance to get even better in his second year with Bruce Arians, and it wouldn't be surprising if James White joins the effort. Both Greg and Ian are confident in Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller's future, although Chris Godwin's life beyond 2021 might be spent elsewhere.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, welcome to PFF Fancy Football Podcast. I'm your host Ian Hurtson. Today we continue our 32 for 32 series with a look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. |
| 0:16.0 | You do not need me to tell you just how successful they're 2020 to 2021 season was Super Bowl champs beat the Washington football team, the Saints, the Packers and most convincingly the Kansas City Chiefs wasn't always smooth. |
| 0:27.0 | I mean, there are some parts throughout the year we wondered if Tom Brady would truly mesh with these receivers ever. Spolar alert, he did just fine defense certainly got better as he went on as well. |
| 0:35.0 | With that said, Tom Brady is back. They're still playing town around the roster and we got the next season look forward to so Bruce Arians Tom Brady. |
| 0:42.0 | They're all back. They're trying to win again. Not a very special guest. I'm going to help us figure out just what they might need to do try to win things again 2021. |
| 0:50.0 | He covers the Buccaneers for the athletic he is co-author of Tampa Bay, which is a great name, by the way. Greg Oman here, you can follow on Twitter at Greg Oman. That's a U M A N Greg man got Super Bowl Championship man off. |
| 1:02.0 | He's much between you all right now. Yeah, no, it's it's a fun time of year to be busy. You know, most of the time, Jenny, where he's not always a busy month in Tampa last a couple of years. |
| 1:12.0 | So yeah, it's been fun and still kind of enjoying it and things get busier in a hurry with free agency coming up 100%. We are recording this on March 1st. So it was the JJ want news day. |
| 1:22.0 | Also got Alex Smith getting released things are coming up fast. So apologies by the time it gets out. There's a little bit extra news. But again, March 1st, we'll do the best we can to get you prepared for the all season. |
| 1:31.0 | So Greg, why don't you start things off with your top three team needs for the Buccaneers ahead of this all season. |
| 1:37.0 | Yeah, it's like we won't really know until free agency comes and goes. If you assume that they're able to kind of keep the biggest of their free agents. They've got a ton of impact free agents that there could be in a position to lose Chris Godwin and LeBonze David, Jack Barrett and Dominic and Sue and Rob Brankowski and Leonard Pranette Antonio Brown. |
| 1:56.0 | Whoever of those groups leaves obviously leaves a hole behind. But if they don't, they'll be in a really nice position where they can kind of draft as they please. There's not a glaring need like there was a tackle last year. |
| 2:08.0 | So I think of their top position on the age just in terms of long term. |
| 2:12.0 | Starts it outside linebacker where they just have very little depth and very little young developmental players to go behind Shaq Barrett and Jason Pearce. I'll start there. I'll go to the defensive line where again they're just getting old and Dominic and through 34. |
| 2:26.0 | They've got some other key free agents that are backups. So it's a chance to get younger there as well. |
| 2:31.0 | And then third is tough. I mean, there's positions that they're really strong, but they're going to get expensive in a hurry. So you might even go cornerback where they're going to have to pay three guys in the next two years. |
| 2:42.0 | And they kind of need to have backup plans in place where they're not just going to a rookie in a year or two when they have to find replacements for these expensive young cornerbacks. |
| 2:51.0 | It's funny because it's particularly in the front seven like they kind of already had this, you know, quote unquote problem last year and they just resigned a lot of these guys to one of your deals. You know, they're bringing back the DOM can see on his latest, you know, kind of mercenary contracts. He's been going around the league just finding the biggest deal. |
| 3:05.0 | And it worked out just fine. So again, yeah, like you said, in the free agency, we know a lot more. I want they need to look at going to the draft, but sticking with that front seven because I'm you brought up, Levant, David Shaq Barrett and DOM can see all these guys are free agents. |
| 3:17.0 | Not even white JPP. I mean, there's still some studs there on defensive line and front seven, even if they leave, do you see them still prioritizing someone like Davis and like Barrett who again, great players, but when you already got to pay some other dudes elsewhere, maybe you could see them walk me elsewhere for more money. |
| 3:33.0 | Yeah, I mean, they like her on day was a lot. I mean, he's going to get a year from now. He'll be there from your free agent. Tom Brady might be as well, but of their young guys, he'll be the big expensive when to get. |
| 3:44.0 | He might be, you know, if you think about where the corner market is going, he might be a $20 million a year corner a year from now. |
