Summary

Rapha presents Talking Luft! Arm warmers over or under sleeves? Gloves or no gloves? Glasses over or under helmet straps? After our Giro episode last week I've got American pro, Joe Dombrowski back on the pod and this week we're Talking some Luft. 2.0 to be exact. Talking Luft 2.0 is always a bit of fun, and I ask him questions about the little intricacies of style in the pro peloton. We talk the evolution of aero jerseys, pasta in the morning, hidden snickers bars in your feed bag, biblical salt-passing folklore, coffee stop snacks and much more! This was a good laugh and I hope you enjoy the listen. Stay tuned next week for my episode with Esteban Chaves. Cheers, Mitch Listen Listen & subscribe to this series on the Life in the Peloton website, at Spotify, Apple Podcasts, GooglePlay, Stitcher, Youtube or your favourite pod app. Show Notes Episode breakdown: 0:00min to 1:38 – Snippet from last week’s episode 'For the Love of the Giro d'Italia' with Joe Dombrowski 1:38min to 4:00 – Talking Luft Intro 4:00min to 28:00 – Talking Luft 2.0 with Joe Dombrowski 28:00min to end – Outro . . . Theme Music The theme music for Life in the Peloton was composed by Pete Shelley, who was lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton. To hear more about the music, listen to the Andre Greipel episode of Life in the Peloton. But it's weird how the Giro, every year you come back to it, you don't think, oh,

0:26.0

it's easy because I've done one.

0:27.4

Yeah.

0:27.8

I mean, I suppose like when you're kind of at the pinnacle of the sport in a given type of race,

0:34.8

whether it's, you know, Roubaix or Flanders or the Giro or tour, the level's

0:39.9

always high.

0:40.9

So there's never that feeling of like you're easing off a bit.

0:44.6

But it's kind of like you say, like now if you go from a grand tour to like a 2.1 level you know, level stage race, you can see that it's not the same.

0:59.8

And in general, I think the level, and you can probably speak to this as well, like, I think

1:04.9

in the last four or five years, the level is like continually gone up and up.

1:08.5

Also, what I've noticed is that I actually feel that the style of racing in the

1:14.1

world tour is actually going more back to kind of like junior style racing.

1:17.8

Yeah.

1:18.2

As to say, I mean, now it, sometimes it takes 80 or 90K for the break to go.

1:23.5

It's like nonstop attacking.

1:25.3

It's fast all day.

1:26.7

It's not this kind of like controlled.

1:29.3

I have the feeling that, you know, like the pro races before were almost like a bit more gentleman's agreement in some regards.

1:50.1

Yeah. Well, good-a-day, everyone.

1:53.8

That was Joe Don Browski, the episode I did with him last week.

1:58.5

It's Jiro Time, and that was awesome talking to him about the Jiro de Italia,

2:00.3

a race that he loves.
