Summary

This week on the HowToBBQRight Podcast, we're kicking things off with a big shoutout to our winners from the recent Turtlebox Giveaway in the community (00:25)! Huge congratulations to Jamie from Swine Life for another big win last weekend—this time cooking on Outlaw's brand-new drum smoker (08:34). We celebrated our 17-year anniversary, and it was an absolute blast (11:09)! Next up, we're getting ready for the Texas Open Fire Meetup—if you're headed that way, be sure to come say hello (14:02)! The holidays are almost here, and that means it's time to start thinking about your Thanksgiving turkey (20:17). If you're planning to brine your bird this year, check out our brand-new turkey brine kits (25:37). Got a smaller turkey? We talk about whether you should use the entire bottle of brine (27:43). Malcom shares whether he injects his turkeys at home (29:23), and we discuss if you should brine when you're only cooking a turkey breast (30:59). For those stuffing their turkey, here's exactly how to do it the right way (33:37). We also cover whether it's better to spatchcock or part your turkey before cooking (37:42). We dive into why the Primo Grill might be your next favorite backyard smoker (39:58). And if you're cooking your turkey on a different type of smoker, your recipe might need a few adjustments (40:42). Has Malcom ever done a two-stage finish on a turkey (44:23)? If you're cooking your turkey and need to travel—say, a couple of hours to a relative's house—here's how to handle that like a pro (46:07). For a midweek meal idea, we share a quick trick to make chicken phillies super easy (49:34). Everyone loves bacon and brisket, but what if you cooked bacon like a brisket (52:44)? Could you win a chili contest with a doctored-up version of Wolf's chili (54:14)?

Reed, joined by my lovely, talented wife, Miss Southern Shell. We got Tyler over here with us running the board. What is up, folks? We wrapped our giveaway in the community. Oh, somebody won the Turtle Box. We did. Shout out to, and I love the last name. Shout out to Eddie Mayo. Oh, yeah. I'm hoping I'm pronouncing that right. It's Eddie Blue Plate Mayo. Yeah. That might be why he won. It was completely random. But yeah, shout out to you, man. Enjoy all the tunes on the Turtle Box. Yeah. What was the song that he added to the playlist? So I did not write out what songs they had. Because most of them were like inconsequential. Like there was nothing like super crazy that stuck out from the ones that they had because most of them were like inconsequential like there was nothing like

Like 80% of it is like pretty consistent. So long as you would listen to it, no. Your Cleadence, Clearwater, your Brad Paisley's, your Eric Churches, like that kind of stuff. But then you got a couple wild cards in there. What was the one y'all were listening to when I walked through? It's like the elephant dance.

1:26.5

Shout out to Jerry Dobbs, who put baby elephant walk on there.

Do you know what that is? Is it from Dumbo? I'm pretty sure it's from Bonbo. I don't know. It's in a bunch of clown. I know that the picture is like black and white. Yeah, okay. Maybe it is from the original Dumbo. I used to watch that movie and cry. What is they? what are they doing with YouTube TV? He wanted to be with his mama. So mad. Like ESPN Disney. I had to pay for another streaming service to watch college football last weekend. Oh, I was seeing stuff about that. God, it is horrible. Like, I had it all down on, I finally gotten so used to YouTube TV. I know where everything was. I could watch any game I wanted to watch. I throw that wrench in a system. All of a sudden, you can't. You can't even watch Monday Night Football. Well, ESPN. So what we did is I had to go double up. Yeah. It was like you had to get the Hulu, ESPN, Disney Plus bundle, ultimate bundle to be able to watch.

2:19.1

Because I had ESPN as an app, but I only had the select membership or whatever that is. And I like YouTube TV. It was great. Yeah, it was easy. But I will say, the ESPN one worked for us. So I guess we're using that one now. I mean, some of it was on Hulu, but we didn't pay.

2:35.5

I don't think I signed up for Hulu.

2:36.7
