This is an episode of the fantastic jazz podcast.

You'll hear it that I recorded a little while back with hosts Adam Manus and Peter Martin.

Adam and Peter invited me on their show earlier this year. I was immediately

very excited and a little bit intimidated. Open Studio, which is Peter Martin's online jazz

educational resource, but Adam also works there. They're really, really good and well-known. You've

probably seen their ads on Instagram where Adam and Peter will be playing piano in this beautiful studio with this killing rhythm section behind them.

They're both just very good at what they do and they're both exceptional musicians.

I'm always kind of intimidated by piano players in particular just because if you're really great at jazz piano, you've got a lot going on in your brain. So I gush a little bit

about this on the episode, but it was particularly exciting for me to have an opportunity to chat

with Peter Martin, since he is a well-known jazz pianist and actually played with Joshua

Redmond back in the 90s, Joshua Redmond, the great tenor saxophone player that I have talked about

many times on Strong Songs.

So Peter is on some of the jazz albums that were most formative for me back when I was first learning jazz.

Our subject for the episode that we recorded was The Great Tower of Power, a band that I have covered on Strong Songs.

I did an episode in season five on Soul Vaccination,

which is included in the album that Adam Peter and I talked about, the 1973 self-titled album,

Tower of Power. It was such a fun chat. I had a great time, and I especially enjoyed myself

because I felt like I could really contribute something as the one horn player on the call, since of course, Tower of Power is such a horn band.

So anyways, I thought this was such a great conversation, and it was so in line with strong songs that I asked if they would mind if I just ran it in my feed, since I'm sure some of you out there didn't hear it when it ran on their feed.
