This is Tales to Terrify. Good evening, children of the night, and welcome.

As of last weekend, our annual flash fictioniction Contest is now officially in full swing.

Our theme this year, in case it has yet to breach your psyche, explores some of the deepest,

darkest depths of human terror. The ancient traditions berthed around the flickering flames of the first campfires, and maybe even before.

It's yielded some of the more terrifying entities in fiction, and some we only pray are fictional.

Our theme this year is folk legends and fairy tales, and it feels like one that's particularly ripe for spawning some

exceptionally dark and gruesome tales. The real trick? Fitting it all into one thousand words or less.

This year we're doing something a little different, too. We've managed to snare a pair of experienced guest judges to join our roster.

Julia and Amanda from Spirits Podcast. Spirits is a boozy podcast about mythology,

legends, and folklore. Every episode co-hosts Julia and Amanda, mix a drink and discuss a new story or character from a wide

range of places, eras, and cultures. So we'd be hard-pressed to find a pair more qualified
