The old jazz standard drifted through the fog around me,

forming a thin bubble of human influence in

an otherwise lifeless world. It was music made for daydreaming. My mind drifted, picturing my wife

and daughter dancing in our kitchen back home. Even in daydreams, I stood outside, looking in through a window, my hand pressing against

the glass, my breath forming fog on the translucent surface.

It was easier to imagine them that way.
