This week, we've crossed the state line into Arkansas

and rolled into the tiny, quiet town of Quitman.

At first glance, Quitman seems like any other small town in rural America.

A handful of stores and restaurants, a school and a post office, large grassy yards and quiet streets lined with tall trees.

With just over 700 people, Quitman's not exactly what you'd call a bustling metropolis,

but when Floyd and Aline Bettis moved to Quitman in the early 1950s, the town wasn't even half that size.
