Easy when I die Good evening, children of the night, and welcome.

This week, we've crossed the state line into Arkansas

and rolled into the tiny, quiet town of Quitman.

At first glance, Quitman seems like any other small town in rural America.

A handful of stores and restaurants, a school and a post office, large grassy yards and quiet streets lined with tall trees.

With just over 700 people, Quitman's not exactly what you'd call a bustling metropolis,

but when Floyd and Aline Bettis moved to Quitman in the early 1950s, the town wasn't even half that size.

The home they purchased, right in the heart of town, was plenty big, though. Too big for just the two of them, really.

But Floyd and Aline had big plans. They'd moved to Quitman with a purpose. They were going,

to start a family. But things didn't come as easily as they'd dreamed. Floyd and Aline were good

people, hard workers and kind, too.

They'd make great parents, everyone said. But despite trying year after year, their luck just refused to

turn. Just as despair threatened to tighten its grip, though. It happened. A line was finally pregnant.

The couple was overjoyed and spent nine months excitedly planning for the new edition.
