Good evening, children of the night. This week I don't have any movies to give you my thoughts on,

but with a little bit of downtime after missing a bit of work for the reported diseases that I seem to be

attracting, I did get most of the way through the TNT show The Alienist, a period piece about a serial

killer of children. It's based on the book of the same name written by Caleb Carr. The principal

characters are well defined, but mysterious enough to leave a person wanting more of their

backstory or more of their motivations. Daniel Brule, who plays the titular character, does a terrific

job. Dakota Fanning appears in the show and does a stellar job. I'm not sure if I've seen her in

anything since the wonderful Denzel Washington movie Man on Fire, but whatever she's been doing in the

meantime appears to be becoming a great adult actor.

Check this one out, Children of the Night.

The Alienist is now in many streaming services.

After many seasons of the Walking Dead,

just as I was about to decide that the show had jumped to the shark yet again,

I read that the next season will be retooled to making it something quite different than what it has been.

So, we'll see. The graphic novel, on the other hand, for me at least, has been consistently good.

If you're one for graphic novels, even if you haven't been a fan of the show, I'd encourage you to hunt down the books at your local library.
