The days have been hot and most of the evenings,

but we've had a few that remind us that cold is coming.

As you likely know, I've been working through last year's good reads list of readers' choice for best horror.

I think I had skipped over remarking on Jeremy Bates' suicide forest.

It's a story set in the Aoki-Gahara forest in Japan, which is one of the world's suicide hotspots.

I found it fairly quick and enjoyable read, but there is only so much you can do with a story

set and a spooky forest. So there is large tracks of the story that felt like the novelization

of the Blair Witch Project. Jeremy's book is the first in his world's scariest places series,

the second being in Paris's famous catacombs.

That reminds me of a write-up I had read in the Urban Exploration, EZine, Infiltration.

It's an interesting read, and I've linked it in the show notes.

As someone who is interested in urban exploration, I'll kick in a bit of disclaimer since we're on a topic of catacombs.

Use the buddy system and be smart. The Odessa catacombs outside of Kiev claimed at least one

person who got lost in them about ten years ago, and Urbex folks haven't forgot that one.

Just remember, all the scary movies that have those famous last lines like, we don't really need a map,

do we?
