But where are we this week? The Biltmore estate. Many of you likely have been there.

It's quite a well-known place in Asheville, North Carolina. The single time that I passed with

a visiting range of the Biltmore, the group I was with declined to visit, regrettably.

George Washington, Vanderbilt, fell in love with the area that the estate stands,

and his brothers and sisters had constructed summer estates, so he would have one as well.

George was a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family that had made their money primarily on this

country's infrastructure with rail and steamboats. The house began construction in 1889 and lasted until

1896. The main house itself is still, to this day, the largest privately owned house in the country

coming in at just under 180,000 square feet.

Its decor has few rivals at American opulence during George Washington Vanderbilt's life or now.

The estate had been designed to be self-supporting with poultry, cattle, pigs, a dairy, and even a forestry program.
