In all my years of serving as head librarian at Miscatonic University, I never before experienced and never since, an incident quite so dreadful as the horrors that I and my colleague Dr. Warren Rice had witnessed on All Hallows Eve of 1928 in the desolate village of Dunwich, Massachusetts. The episode so wholly

terrifying that to this day, I have visions of the immense beast each and every time I close my

eyes. Man is not alone on this earth. There are greater beings that exist between the spaces

The events that would lead me to this state of madness began with one single man.

Wilbur Waitley.

My own personal first meeting with Mr. Wilbur Waitley happened right here in my office

at Miss Catonic University.

Mr. Waitley sent a letter which I received

on August 19th. The handwriting and language used in the letter were coarse like that of a child

or a man with failing faculties. He asserted that he would be arriving on campus with intent of

borrowing a book from the library. I paid the letter no mind, but on September 15th there came a knock at my office door.
