0:47.3	Welcome back to the home front. I'm your host, Reed Galen. Today, I'm joined by Gina Hinajosa. She's a native Texan born and raised in the Rio Grande
0:56.0	Valley. She began her career as an advocate for families and workers and as a civil rights and union
1:01.6	lawyer. She represented hardworking Texans fighting to make sure they were treated fairly,
1:06.1	got the wages and benefits they earned, and helped support their families. She never planned for running for office,
1:12.2	but when her son's elementary school was threatened for closure by state budget cuts,
1:16.3	she rallied other parents, ran for the school board in one, and kept her school's son open.
1:21.5	But neighborhood cuts were happening across the state because Republican leaders kept diverting
1:26.0	Texas tax dollars away from schools.
1:29.4	Regina ran for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives in one. In 2019, she fought for and helped
1:35.2	win an investment of more than $11 billion in Texas public schools. Inspired by her experience
1:41.2	with her own kids, she led legislation that would reduce standardized testing and provide pay raises for every Texas teacher.
1:48.1	She's now taking the fight directly to Governor Greg Abbott, Boo Hiss, who for over a decade has helped the corrupt elite get rich while working Texans struggle to get by.
