If you're in a position of leadership, whether in the home or on the job, you've endured seasons of conflict when the pressures feel overwhelming.

At those moments of crisis, you have a choice to make.

You can either step up and resolve them, or you can acquiesce and see if the problems will solve themselves.

Today on Insight for Living, Chuck Wendahl points to Nehemiah as an outstanding model of successful

leadership.

We're in Nehemiah 13. It's here we're reminded that when troubles flare up,

the most effective leadersiah took by the three

chapter, you will come across four great problems that Nehemiah took by the throat. He was determined not to let them

conquer him or the people that he ruled over.

And when he came back to the city after being gone for some time,

he discovered four great areas of wrong. The first problem is revealed in

verses 4 through 9 and it is the problem I would like to call the problem of a compromising companionship.

To appreciate it you've got to understand the main characters of the problem.

Verse introduces them to us.

Prior to this, Elyashib, the priest, who was appointed over the chambers of the house of God, being related to

Tobaya had prepared a large room for him. Tobaya historically through the book has been the enemy of God.

Niamaya has faced him time and again as Tobaya tried to stop the building of the wall.

As he criticized and attacked and assaulted Nehemiah personally.

But all the way through, Nehemiah made sure that he never got inside the walls.

Tobaya is the classic example of the rebellious unbeliever who tries every way in the world

to thwart the work of God. But while Nehemiah was gone,

Elyashib had said, let's prepare a room for Tobiah.
