It's the morning of February 2nd, 2014, inside Studio D on Microsoft's campus.

Whispers of anticipation sweep through the atrium as employees flood the building, ready to welcome Microsoft's newest CEO.

Soon the crowd occupies every part of the building's three floors, balconies and stairwells.

As the building reaches capacity, Satya Nadella, Steve Falmer and Bill Gates walk onto a small stage set up in the middle of the atrium.

Cheers and applause begin to echo throughout the building.

Satya listens to the crowd grow even louder as Bill steps forward to highlight the momentous convergence of the only CEOs in Microsoft's 40-year history.

The crowd roars. Satya feels Steve panicked on the back and he looks over at his predecessor and smiles.

Satya sees his own excitement and sentimentality reflected in Steve's face.
