Summary

This week, D and Jac sit down with Abby Donley, nurse and Executive Director of Impact in Healthcare. Impact in Healthcare is a non-profit organization that emerged in response to the challenges of the pandemic, led by a team of healthcare workers addressing the issues in healthcare from a policy and legislative standpoint. Together, they discuss the difficulties healthcare workers face due to workplace violence and the critical issue of safe staffing. They also discuss the lack of preventive measures in hospitals, the shortage of nurses, insufficient resources, and inadequate compensation. Abby shares more on the work that Impact is doing to raise awareness on these issues and gives insight into their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., where they’ll be meeting with policy makers!

Happy Friday. Welcome back to the WOMED. Oh my God. Jack, I've like really, really missed Midwest Falls. And like Cleveland kind of feels a little bit like, oh, kind of like Seattle. There's been a ton of rain. But today was like the perfect fall day. It was clear blue skies. There was just like a little

0:40.9

tinge of like crisp in the air. I walked down to the lake. I'm like, this is my neighborhood.

0:47.1

This is my space. And I really was like sad. I really tried to recreate the pumpkin spice mach that I had yesterday. And I just couldn't do it. I didn't even know it was a thing. I had no idea that was a thing either. Where did you get? Like I don't think I've ever seen that. A pumpkin spice macha. Was it even good? It was delicious. So after therapy, I found this cute little coffee shop with amazing baked goods, too. I got this like pumpkin muffin with this little cream cheese drizzle on it too. I was really feeling the, you know, basic white girl fall shit. But yeah, I was in there. And I was like, is there anything? Like you have this like pumpkin spice iced thing with matcha, but like can I have that hot? And they're like, yeah, it's just like the foam or something. So yeah, they made me a hot matcha with pumpkin spice foam. And it was so good until I realized I did not ask for it to be like oat milk.

1:45.8

It was definitely full on dairy.

1:48.5

And I had like four sips of it.

1:50.1

My stomach's like, bleh.

1:51.8

But the taste was amazing.

1:53.6

That sounds so good.

1:55.6

But you know what's funny?

1:56.6

I've actually, I think since I've been, we've been back and forth to Europe a few times, I'm very, very lucky to do that. But I've been back and forth to Europe a few times this past year. I have started to just embrace milk, like in my coffee. Not like, I'm not going on or like drinking regular milk like at home. But I mean, yeah, to me, I just felt like such a hypocrite because I love cheese.

2:19.5

I love ice cream. And then like, why am I being such a little bitch baby about milk and my

2:27.4

coffee? Like, it's just kind of ridiculous. And I just was like, this is getting out of hand.

2:31.8

And then when I was in Europe, like, you, you feel like a

2:34.9

legitimate asshole asking for like any sort of latte, unless you're at like a cute kind of

2:40.2

different sort of cafe. If you just go to like a standard cafe, like you're going to look like

2:45.2

such an asshole asking for milk in your latte. So I just started embracing it. I'm like, you know, whatever, I don't care.

2:52.8

And now that I'm at home and I'm making myself my lattes at home, the regular milk just foams

2:59.4

so much better than like oat milk and oil milk. So I'm like trying to not really care as much.

3:10.3

So I'm surprised because you're you're like a dairy girl.

3:23.0

I love cheese. But that milk was like I felt my stomach expanding. I was like. Really? Yes. It was so uncomfortable. I was like instabloat. But like.

3:31.3

Cheese. Man, I'll fucking I fucking gnaw on a block of it. But like, the milk and I have nothing.
