I love walking on the beach.

One of my favorite things to do while I'm at the beach is to count the pelicans.

Here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, we've got seagulls, but we have more pelicans.

At least that's what I'm aware of.

We have more pelicans than we have seagulls. These pelicans are massive birds.

And rarely do they fly alone. Sometimes they do. But more often, they're flying in a group of pelicans.

And I don't know what the official name is for pelicans. Whether it's a group, a flock, a litter, I don't know. And when I see those pelicans, whether it's a group, a flock, a litter, I don't know. And when I see those pelicans

fly by, I start counting. One, two, three. Usually it's a flock of five or six. Nothing

significant, but every now and then I'll see a flock of pelicans from the distance

and I can tell, oh, that's a big one. That's a big one. And it becomes a challenge to see if I can

count every single one as they fly by. They're not flying often in single file. I mean, sort of, but they're also moving around.

So it's not always easy to count the large flocks of pelicans.

But I'll do it. One, two, three.

The most that I've ever counted in one group as they were flying by was 32. 32 pelicans.

I mean, it was pretty great. I'm not what would be called a bird or someone who intentionally

watches birds, but I find birds fascinating and we lived in

Maryland our living room had this big plate glass window and I was sitting there I don't

know what I was doing reading probably and an owl an owl flew into the window, didn't break it.

I don't know if he saw his or her shadow or reflection and thought it was another owl.

Even so, I'm not really sure of the wisdom of that.
