Welcome to the show. It is the most important meeting between two people this year.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first visit to the United States in six years this week,

and he spent time with a man he knows quite well, U.S. President Joe Biden. The two emerged from

their meetings with agreements to resume military communications, stop the flow of chemical

precursors for fentanyl to the United States, and an agreement to cooperate on artificial

intelligence. These were all things the White House has been pushing for, and in return,

Xi seems to have gotten some breathing room to focus on China's economic troubles instead of

bilateral tensions with the United States for now. The meeting in San Francisco's APEC summit this

week is the culmination of more recent talks between officials
