It seems like nothing in America is quite as American as baseball.

In fact, Americans, big and small, young and old, gather by the thousands across our

nation to watch baseball games every year.

Popcorn and hot dogs and the song, take me out to the ball game, all come to mind when

we think about this beloved sport, baseball.

Although my family did not have a TV when I was growing up, I do remember going with my

dad to watch the 1987 World Series on TV while we were visiting my grandfather in the

nursing home, our state's team, the Minnesota twins won that year.

And I have loved baseball ever since.

But how long ago did the love of baseball begin in our country?
