We used to joke years ago that iPad was just a great big iPhone.

Now, a note from market tracker Omdia, formerly Canales, is drawing a new comparison.

Let's start with good news from last year.

Tablet shipments were up nearly 10% globally in 2025 by Omdias count.

A research manager at the firm says the 2025 tablet space saw its highest annual shipment volume since the

pandemic-driven demand boom of 2020. Every region tracked saw double-digit growth for tablets,

according to Amdia, North America not included. That said, discounts in the healthy holiday

quarter helped that region at year's end.

Globally, Apple won the year with an average shipment share of 39%.

Samsung was a distant second with an average shipment share of 17%.

Yes, that sounds similar to the smartphone space, though that is not the comparison to which I was referring.
