A Super Talk, Mississippi Media Production. So joining me now, as he has many times in the past when it's time to play Auburn, Jason Caldwell from inside the Auburn Tigers. Jason, this has been a real Jekyll and Hyde kind of year for Auburn. They've had some good wins. They've had some bad losses. I always feel like the truce in the middle. What is this Auburn football team to you?

0:22.1

Yeah, I think you're right. I think like most teams other than, you know, I kind of been saying

0:29.0

this, it's probably the middle of the year. Other than Alabama, Florida, probably Texas A&M,

0:35.8

I don't even know that you could include Georgia in the mix of you know what you got.

0:40.1

I think everybody in this league is kind of searching for who they are.

0:44.0

And I think the things that those teams had in common are what the other teams, everybody else was searching for.

0:50.2

Alabama, Florida, Texas, A&M, returning quarterback, mostly stable offensive line, and the same offensive coordinator and play caller.

0:59.1

Those are things that those teams had in common.

1:01.0

Everybody else has kind of been dealing with something different,

1:03.4

and because of that, there's been so much inconsistency in the league.

1:06.5

And, you know, Albrecht's right there.

1:08.1

Your offense has been good at times, but by the time they kind of got everything going,

1:12.3

a couple of injuries on the offensive line really derailed them,

1:15.2

and it obviously tanked big to be being slowed as well.

1:17.8

It hurt the offense.

1:18.9

Defensively, they lose so many big timers off that defense last year.

1:22.9

They just haven't been able to step up yet, really struggling on third down defense, giving people way too many opportunities.

1:32.2

And, you know, that's hurt that offense as well because they haven't had as many possessions.

1:36.3

Last week, they had less than nine possessions in a game against, you know, Texan and them.

1:41.2

It's hard to get rolling.

1:42.5

So, yeah, it's been, it's been, you know, up and down all season long and, you know, Texas A&M, it's hard to get rolling. So, yeah, it's been up and down all season long. And, you know, not a surprise with everything these kids are having to deal with as well. When you look at Auburn and defensively, especially, Kevin Steele is a guy who, you know, his philosophy has always been, we're going to bring a lot of pressure, we're going to play man coverage. That has not been the recipe for success against Mississippi State this year. Will he bite the bullet and unveil that rush three, drop eight that State's been seeing all year? Or do you think he might start to his guns? Yeah, you know, they did that last year really against LSU. You know, they went out and played that, you know, three-down line the defense and kind of said, okay, we're going to give you some passes, but we're going to tackle it. But, you know, you could do that when you had Derek Brown and Marlon Davis and two of those guys up front because they still create some pressure. This year they haven't been able to create pressure. They haven't been able to create it with four or five or six very often. Yeah, no, it's been one of the biggest questions for me when I thought about this game a few weeks ago when it was coming up.

2:39.3

Kevin Seale likes to play man.
