Welcome back to Conflicted. The last episode was dedicated to the Yemeni Civil War, an intractable conflict that continues to ravage the lives of the Yemeni people.

Today we're going to talk about perhaps the greatest tragedy of modern times,

the Syrian Civil War.

In this war, you'll certainly notice a lot of the same players involved.

It is a highly complicated Civil War,

and we're going to try to help you understand how on earth Syria's leader, Beshirel Assad, and the world, let this beautiful country and its people get caught in the dangerous crossfire between government and terrorists and foreign interests.

Syria wasn't known for extremism or for this kind of brutality and bloodshed.

This is foreign and alien to it. And this is why whenever basically I see

jihadists and jihadist sympathizers, you know, whether they are in Europe or North America, in the You and people like you empower them.
