1 Corinthians chapter 12 verses 21 through 26.

The eye cannot say to the hand, I don't need you.

And the head cannot say to the feet, I don't need you.

On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,

and the parts that we think are less honorable, we treat with special honor. And the parts that

are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment.

But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,

so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern

for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.

If one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

Sympathy pain. When I injured my ring finger, I expected months of pain before regaining its full function.

As I practiced the prescribed exercises, the finger next to it began to throb.

So I consulted my doctor.

Sympathy pain, he said, a branching between the nerves of the ring and the pinky fingers causes

dependence on one another. If one finger hurts, the other aches in sympathy. The Apostle Paul uses

the human body to illustrate the uniqueness and unity of God's people. In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, verses 21 through

26, he reinforces how valuable each individual member is to the healthy functioning of the whole.

Then he turns his attention to the unity achieved when we connect with each other.
