Summary

Park Chan-Wook kicks off his famous “Vengeance” trilogy and we kick off another episode where we talk about Ted Danson’s late 90s sitcom BECKER! Critic, friend of the pod, and Crystal Skull-apologist David Ehrlich joins us to chat about Park’s “Sympathy for Mister Vengeance” - a film that shows that revenge is not a dish best served cold, but is actually kind of sad and futile. Come for Ehrlich’s story about his teen trip to Seoul (when he had lunch with Director Park!), stay for the throwback memories of ordering imported DVDs from YesAsia-dot-com and the often misleading branding of the Tartan Asian EXTREME label.

There's a saying is a boiled podcast afraid of boiling water. Yeah, it is a famous thing.

a good tagline. Yeah. Like, I don't think that's that's the vibe of the movie.

0:55.4

Lightly mischaracterizes. It's like he's like, ah, this is sweet. It's happening.

1:00.7

Yeah. Looking his list. I waited, but it's worth the wait.

1:06.8

It's definitely satisfying my emotion. Revenge is a dish that served with disposable ice cream cake.

1:14.5

Revenge is never this sweet. That's the tagline for sympathy for misavengeance.

1:17.5

And it's limited American release. Quietly might be one of the best titles we've ever covered.

1:23.4

It's a very cool title. It's a cool title. It's just called vengeance is mine.

1:28.7

Oh, interesting. Right. And so it's a less exciting title. Yeah. There have been other notable

1:34.9

films with that title. Yes. And I would love to have been in the meeting that I assume was

1:41.2

happening with the at the offices of like Tartan, Asia, extreme. We're talking a lot of

1:45.7

Tartan. There's been some Tartan. Yeah. We're pretty Scottish when we see someone came in.

1:49.4

Yeah. Someone came in with a full ass kill. It was like, I'm thought, I can't, oh my god,

1:54.3

I almost lost it. You actually were extreme. We're better than that. My Scottish.

2:01.4

And you find her done after you and after I thought I'd never have to do it.

2:05.3

You know, the Scrooge McDuck of Tartan came in about the dive into his pile of Asian extreme

money and was like, I've got it. And part of what he liked the title. Yeah. No, it's a weird choice.

2:17.4

It's a good ass time. But I do think I do think it a plot like I'm a cyborg, but that's okay.
